Ukraine: torched journalist car, wiretapping raise press freedom concerns

A car used by the team of an investigative journalist whose reports had raised the hackles of President Volodymyr Zelenskiy was burned near Kyiv, following allegations of wiretapping of the journalist’s home.

New report: Peace in Ukraine (II): A new approach to disengagement

Ceasefires in Ukraine's Donbas repeatedly fray because no side is fully invested in peace. Until the sides can agree on a long-term political solution, they should focus on protecting civilians through carefully targeted sectoral disengagements. If this facilitates peacemaking, so much the better.

Ukraine troops, rebels trade blame over ceasefire

Ukraine's army has accused pro-Russian separatists of firing weapons shortly after a ceasefire between the two sides came into force. The rebels say they are abiding by the truce, calling Kyiv's claims a "provocation."

NATO has entered a closer partnership with Ukraine, recognizing the former Soviet republic as an enhanced opportunities partner (EOP) after Kyiv demonstrated its "commitment to Euro-Atlantic security."

Media watchdog condemns 'wave of violence' against Ukrainian journalists

Peace in Ukraine I: A European War – ICG report

To help Ukraine find peace, the EU, NATO, and member states must seek new approaches to arms control discussions with Russia and European security as a whole. They should also consider a more flexible sanctions policy, such that progress in Ukraine may lead to incremental easing.

Germany says Ukraine talks to be held next week
